The City of Mobile, Alabama’s Planning Commission has unanimously approved the Map for Mobile Comprehensive Plan. The year-long process for creating the plan involved extensive community outreach, including a Focus on the Future workshop that drew over 400 participants as well as innovative online engagement opportunities. The final plan can be viewed online.

Mobile has tremendous assets, including a rich culture and history and¬†important economic development opportunities. The city also faces challenges, including population decline, regional suburban sprawl, traffic congestion and income inequality.¬†Map for Mobile focuses on seven planning elements: built environment, mobility and connectivity, neighborhoods, city facilities and services, economic development, natural resources and collaboration and cooperation. It lays a foundation for zoning, land use, code and ordinance changes and will serve as a “living document” that will be reviewed on an annual basis.
