Valparaiso and Madison, Indiana Present in America’s Best Communities Competition

During the last week of April, semifinalists in the America’s Best Communities contest traveled to Durham, North Carolina for the penultimate round of the competition. Two Planning NEXT clients–Valparaiso and Madison, Indiana–were among the select group of 15 out of an original 350 applicants invited to make presentations. The cities’ respective planning processes, ValpoNEXT and ENVISION Jefferson County (a coordinated process for the City of Madison and Jefferson County), were major components of their applications for the competition.

Madison has been selected as a finalist and will move on to the final round of the competition and Valparaiso, while not selected to advance, returned home with a $25,000 award to continue implementing its plan for a downtown arts district. Both communities deserve to be congratulated for their inspiring work and very strong showing in the competition.

The America’s Best Communities competition is sponsored by Frontier Communications and DISH Network and is designed to stimulate economic revitalization in small towns and cities across the country.
