After a few months of anticipation, members of the steering committee of this north Alabama community came together for their orientation last week. Nearly 200 members of the community applied to serve, all of them determined to make Decatur even better tomorrow.
We guided the staff team on the process to establish a diverse citizen committee to guide the public process and assist with the substance of the plan. From nearly 200 applicants, 40 were selected to represent the community’s many interest groups, demographics, and geographic areas.
At their first meeting, the committee learned about the planning process and their role. Then we discussed the greatest opportunities for the city’s future and how to get others in the community involved in the process.
