Congratulations to two integral members of the Planning NEXT family! Sarah Bongiorno, LEED AP BD+C and Kyle May, AICP have been recognized for their significant contributions, dedication, and service to our clients and the communities they represent with recent promotions.
A recognized leader in the Columbus design community, a passionate advocate for planning for quality of place, and a supporter of community engagement in many forms, Sarah is now Senior Project Manager. Since joining Planning NEXT in 2011, she has managed a number of complex projects with significant community impact including the ValpoNEXT Vision and Creative District Plan in Valparaiso, Indiana; the North Olmsted Master Plan in North Olmsted, Ohio; and the One City, One Vision Strategic Plan in Anniston, Alabama. Recently, she has brought her talents to Portsmouth Virginia where she is working on Build One Portsmouth, a Comprehensive Plan for Portsmouth, Virginia and Overland Park, Kansas where she is helping to manage visioning process. Sarah’s first project with Planning NEXT was 200Columbus, the city’s bicentennial celebration, and she has been delivering quality work focused on high-design and innovative ways of engaging communities ever since. Sarah’s commitment to the local community is evidenced through her work as a co-founder of Columbus Design Week[s], a series of activities and community conversations about the role of design, as one of the key leaders of Camp Architecture, a summer camp for central Ohio youth that introduces them to design and architecture, and as Auxiliary Faculty at The Ohio State University.
Reaching past the typical voices and engaging a broader and more representative range of citizens has been fundamental to Kyle’s work at Planning NEXT. Now Senior Planner, Kyle has worked in a wide variety of communities since joining Planning NEXT in 2010, from rural counties to prospering suburbs. Kyle helps his clients communicate complex demographic, economic or place-based conditions and trends through attractive, community-facing documents. This work has enabled him to facilitate high profile projects including Redevelopment Area Plans in Independence, Ohio and the Vibrant Communities Action Agenda in Elkhart County, Indiana. Currently, he is working in Loudoun County, Virginia on Envision Loudoun, a new comprehensive plan for the community, and in Athens-Clarke County Georgia on Envision Athens, a Community and Economic Strategic Plan. In the local community, Kyle exhibits his passion for the planning profession through his work with Ohio APA and as a volunteer each year with Camp Architecture, for which he designed and facilitates a City Planning Day for central Ohio youth.
The Planning NEXT team applauds Sarah and Kyle’s exemplary work and appreciates their valuable contributions to Planning NEXT, our clients, and the communities that we serve throughout the country.
