Central Ohio is growing and communities are readying for change. This past spring, insight2050 released updated projections for growth of the region’s population, which could reach one million by 2050. Some of this growth is being directed towards infill redevelopment, while an estimated 112 square miles of additional new land development is als0 expected.

Leaders in Millcreek Township, Ohio have launched a comprehensive planning process that will position the community to capitalize on anticipated regional growth–and to proactively address the development pressures it can bring. The Township has engaged Planning NEXT to assist in developing an update to its comprehensive plan that will ensure quality development that meets the values of the community.

At a kick-off meeting last week, Planning NEXT staff led Township Trustees and Zoning Commission members through a mapping activity focused on identifying “dynamic elements” in Millcreek–major projects that are expected in the next five to ten years. This work lays a critical foundation needed to understand how elements like future housing developments, industrial projects, and infrastructure expansion may impact quality of life and to assist the community in considering where they should be located.

In late October, a public workshop will provide the first opportunity for the community at large to get involved in the planning effort.
