Where will the next 40,000 Greenville citizens live, work, and play?  That is one of the critical questions participants answered during the How Will We Grow? workshop on November 4th and 5th.  The workshop was an important opportunity to gather input for Horizons 2026, an update to the city’s comprehensive plan.

Over the years Greenville has transformed from one of the state’s main agricultural centers into the cultural, healthcare and economic hub of Eastern North Carolina. Horizons 2026 recognizes that over while this rapid growth presents many new opportunities, it also presents new challenges. The comprehensive plan will serve as a strategic policy guide that expresses the values, aspirations and vision of the community, along with goals, policies and strategies to achieve that vision.

The How Will We Grow? workshop included two parts. Part 1 was designed confirm the values of the community that will define the city’s future development patterns, and engage in interactive group exercises to define the plan for Greenville’s growth and objectives for the evolution of several key areas of the city. Part 2 allowed participants to review the development concepts created from Part 1 input and provided opportunities for citizens to further refine the objectives for future city growth.

Workshop results will inform the plan to help shape how and where the city will grow in the future.
