Jamie Greene presented two sessions during this year’s American Planning Association annual conference.

Pre-planning for Successful Comprehensive Plans (S599)

With planning projects growing in complexity, communities are increasingly taking deliberate organizing steps before launching a major planning effort. These “pre-planning” activities can help align stakeholders with the project while providing tools for its implementation. This session draws on the experience of Cary, N.C., to demonstrate how pre-planning and organization can save resources, foster key relationships, and build an effective planning framework for future projects and plans.

The Rebirth of Planning in Cincinnati (S573)

Once a planning pioneer, the City of Cincinnati eliminated its planning department in 2002. Recently reinstated, the department is developing the city’s first comprehensive plan in more than 30 years while at the same time advancing cutting-edge techniques to foster positive development. This session will trace Cincinnati’s planning history and rebirth and examine how its recent planning efforts have capitalized on changing demographics and economic forces.
