Muncie Action Plan lays groundwork for early childhood initiative

By January 27, 2015Project Updates

Cover from MAP ReportThe Muncie Action Plan (MAP) in Muncie, Indiana was an unprecedented coming together of community members of all ages and backgrounds. In 2010, the visioning and strategic planning process came to a close and the plan was formally adopted with broad-based support for its 45 recommended actions.

Now implementation of MAP is underway, and citizen task forces have been established to see it through. One of MAP’s major achievements has been the establishment of the Birth to Kindergarten Early Childhood Education initiative, known as “B5.” With support from the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, B5 aims to raise the awareness of the importance of early childhood issues throughout Delaware County. B5 recognizes the importance of brain development before the age of five to educational outcomes later in life and seeks to create a unified system of early childhood support for children and families in preparation for entering Kindergarten.

Congratulations to everyone in Muncie for their commitment to turning the plan into reality and for their dedication to the community’s youngest members!
