Many months of intensive planning by the City of Independence, with planning NEXT’s assistance, have culminated in the approval of Area Plans for five non-residential areas within the community. Building upon this success, the City has announced that it will partner with Cleveland-based Fairmont Properties to develop city-owned property in downtown Independence and a 33 acre site in the Northwest Quadrant of Rockside Road. In accordance with the Area Plans, the initial scope of the development planning will concentrate on adding new and exciting for-sale residential choices to the downtown Independence market, providing innovative housing options that do not currently exist in the area for young professionals, empty nesters and downsizers. A complementary neighborhood retail component is also included. It is anticipated that the initial phases of development will be completed in 2017.
