Over one hundred and twenty residents turned out on a beautiful September evening to participate in the Future of Arts summit as part of Valparaiso, Indiana’s creative district planning process and participation in the America’s Best Communities competition. An introduction presentation shared highlights from the community assessment on the state of arts and culture in Valparaiso and a physical assessment of Indiana Avenue, the proposed location for the core district. During the second half of the event participants got to roll up their sleeves and share their ideas for the kinds of projects, programs or opportunities they see in a future creative district for Valparaiso. The Planning NEXT Team will use input gathered to begin drafting the recommendations for the plan.
An Open House is scheduled for October 14. At that event the public will have the opportunity to review and prioritize draft recommendations and to see illustrations of how the core portion of the district could be transformed.
