Planning NEXT Helps Engage Durham, North Carolina

By May 6, 2019Project Updates

Last week Planning NEXT kicked off a three-year engagement with Durham, North Carolina to prepare a new comprehensive plan! Working with the Durham City-County Planning Department staff, the Planning NEXT team—led by Sarah Bongiorno and Jamie Greene—will focus primarily on designing and facilitating a robust and inclusive engagement process. The team will also advise on land use policy.

Durham is a dynamic and diverse place. Between 2015 and 2045, Durham County is projected to grow by almost 140,000 residents and 76,000 jobs. Durham sits in the middle of the Research Triangle, one of the fastest growing and strongest, diversified, and most stable economies in the nation.

The team will be supported by Dr. Irma McClaurin, known for her diversity strategy experience in bringing various and under-represented voices to the process; and Bilingual Communications, who will support on translation and interpretation services to ensure that everyone has the chance to participate.

Stay tuned for updates from the process!
