After a year long countywide planning effort, the draft recommendations for the Wayne Onward comprehensive planning process were shared with the community at a celebratory Open House on June 25th.
Wayne Onward was launched in fall 2018 with the goal of creating an authentic community-driven vision for the future of the County. This process aimed to update the existing 1997 Comprehensive Plan and the 2007 Audit to reflect current trends and priorities.
At the core of the Wayne Onward process was a robust public engagement process including two rounds of public workshops, culminating in an Open House. Hundreds of people participated in the process, and the Project Team collected approximately 1,750 public comments. These engagement efforts, in addition, to technical analysis helped produce a draft comprehensive plan.
Key themes that arose from the process included balancing rural character and growth, improving land use tools, providing housing options, and supporting parks and trailways.
The Wayne Onward Comprehensive Plan is expected to be finalized in August 2019.
