Liberty Township: A Rural Community Proactively Planning in the Wake of Regional Change

By March 1, 2024March 7th, 2024Project Updates

In the heart of Licking County, Ohio, just 15 minutes from the location of Intel’s planned $20 billion investment, Liberty Township has initiated a process to proactively plan for the future. This work will build off the momentum of a visionary regional effort which drew together 15 distinct jurisdictions in Licking County, FRAMEWORK, and will provide more precise direction for this small, rural community in the future.

With the FRAMEWORK process as a launchpad, Township leadership recognized that planning in anticipation of growth could be a tool to empower the public to actively mold the aesthetics, functionality, and overall essence of the community. The importance of retaining rural character, supporting agricultural uses, and sustaining a small-town feel, all while embracing new opportunities, was clear.

In response to the community’s growing recognition of the importance of planning, Liberty Township has engaged Planning NEXT to assist with a new comprehensive planning process. Last week, Liberty Township witnessed an inspiring turnout at a public workshop dedicated to the new comprehensive planning effort. Over 100 community members filled the room to capacity, symbolizing a collective commitment to actively participate in the decision-making process. It was a showcase of the community’s newfound value for planning and their eagerness to have their voices heard as they stand on the brink of significant growth and change.

Planning NEXT is honored to be part of this significant chapter in Liberty Township’s story and is committed to helping enhance what makes Liberty Township special.
