Preparing to Tackle Growth and Change: Marysville Assesses Comprehensive Plan

By April 23, 2024Project Updates

Rapid population growth is impacting all corners of Central Ohio, and Planning NEXT is working hard to help our region’s communities to prepare for this future. This has included important work for the City of Marysville, which is experiencing significant residential development and change in a county (Union County) that is expecting a 25% population increase by 2050. The City’s exiting residential pipeline, in addition to two other major projects that are anticipated, is expected to result in the construction of 3,000 new housing units. This is a substantial increase for a community with a population of just over 27,000.

In recent months, Planning NEXT has worked closely with the City to conduct an assessment of its existing comprehensive plan. While the current plan has been a valuable guide since it was adopted in 2018, a new plan is needed to address housing, walkability, amenities, economic diversification, and maintaining a “small town feel” in the wake of anticipated growth.

Planning NEXT’s principal, Jamie Greene, AIA, FAICP, was quoted in a recent Marysville Journal-Tribune article, stating that Marysville leaders believe the plan update “should provide more tools for managing future growth to ensure the City is prepared and strengthens its best qualities.” With the assessment completed, the City is now well-positioned to undertake a forward-thinking planning process.
