Camp Architecture: The next generation of planning professionals

Camp Architecture is a summer camp for central Ohio youth ages 8-18. The camp introduces the youth to the world of architecture and design through hands-on activities, field trips, walking tours, presentations by professionals and imaginative games. Also included in the camp is an introduction to the allied professions of city planning and landscape architecture. The camp operates through The Center for Architecture and Design and partners with the AIA (American Institute of Architects) of Columbus.

Sarah Bongiorno has been the Executive Coordinator of the Elementary and Middle School weeks of Camp for the past four years. Sarah helps to design and organize robust activities, field trips and engaging programming for the campers ages 8-14.

In addition, Kyle May has lead the city planning portion of camp which has quickly become the campers favorite day. Kyle led both age groups in a game he created called The City Game. The Camp Architecture participants work in teams to build the “best city” through a series of rounds and more than 200 years of both obstacles and opportunities culminating with a bid to host the Olympics.

Educating central Ohio youth in an engaging way and cultivating a life-long appreciation for architecture and design is the goal of this program.
