Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth, the first Comprehensive Plan for Mobile, Alabama in over twenty years, has been honored with an award from the Alabama Chapter of the American Planning Association. With leadership from Mayor Sandy Stimpson, City staff, and a volunteer steering committee, the planning process brought together a broad range of community members to shape the multifaceted plan.

Planning NEXT worked with Goodwyn Mills and Cawood, Kimley Horn, and Dover Kohl on the plan, leading key components of the public engagement effort, as well as editing and designing the final plan to make it clear and compelling. This work included a Focus on the Future Workshop that drew over 400 participants and innovative online tools for gathering public input.

Planning NEXT is now working closely with the City again on a Neighborhood Planning Toolkit and helping to guide implementation by supporting the City’s Build Mobile initiative. The City is also undertaking a rewrite of its Zoning Code and Land Development Regulations.

Congratulations to all who were involved in this remarkable planning effort!
