Planning NEXT Senior Project Manager Sarah Bongiorno, LEED AP BD+C and intern Bethany Bella presented at the Direction Home Akron Canton Fall Conference on their Livable Communities planning work in both the City of Columbus and in Ohio’s Summit County.

The conference, a two-day event held virtually on September 29 and 30, featured topics related to AARP’s Livable Communities framework, also referred to as the national Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Sarah and Bethany presented, alongside Direction Home’s Susan Sigmon, success stories from Columbus’ Age-Friendly Strategic Plan and process-level highlights from the ongoing Age-Friendly Summit County initiative (depicted in photos above and below).

Their presentation, Creating Communication Pathways: Connecting the Community, Stakeholders, and Older Adults for a Livable Community, emphasized the importance of generating actionable planning strategies that enhance the livability of communities for everyone, especially older adults.

More information about the conference can be found here. To learn more about the planning process, check out this article from the Akron Beacon Journal.

Keep an eye out for the Age-Friendly Summit County Strategic Plan, which will be published later this year!
