Sarah Kelly, AICP, and Shelby Oldroyd will be speaking on their experience working in Beavercreek Township, Ohio, at the American Planning Association (APA) Ohio, Cincinnati David J Allor Planning & Zoning Workshop on March 10th, 2023. They leading a session called Building a Better Bedroom Community: Sustainability, public health, and a character-based approach to land use in Beavercreek Township alongside Max McConnell, Associate Economic Development and Zoning Administrator with Beavercreek Township.
Many towns and townships throughout Ohio have developed as bedroom communities—suburbs with largely similar single-family residential patterns. Through careful planning, these communities have an opportunity to shape growth, develop in new ways, and distinguish themselves. Using the recent comprehensive planning effort in Beavercreek Township as an example, speakers will demonstrate how the themes of sustainability and public health served as a launching point to promote a greater variety of housing, encourage development patterns that protect environmental resources, and promote quality of place that will help them to set themselves apart from others.
We’ll see you there!
