This week, Planning NEXT’s Director, Sarah Kelly, AICP, and Senior Planner, Bailey Morlan, will be presenting at the APA Central Ohio Planning and Zoning Workshop on October 11. Both Sarah and Bailey will be sharing their expertise on some of the most pressing challenges facing the central Ohio region.
Sarah will be presenting with APA Ohio Director, Christine Dersi Davis, AICP. Their collaborative session will dive into the complexities of comprehensive planning in Ohio. With plans across the state varying greatly in quality and impact, the session will explore critical topics such as whether Ohio should establish guidance or standards for comprehensive planning, what other states could serve as benchmarks, and how planners can advocate for improved comprehensive planning processes in Ohio.
Bailey’s session will focus on the urban-rural interface in central Ohio, an area experiencing tremendous growth and development pressures. With co-speakers Keith Conroy from Millcreek Township, and Bill Bogantz from Liberty Township, the session will discuss how traditionally rural communities at this interface are facing significant transitions as new residents and development pressures bring inevitable change. The session will emphasize the importance of proactive planning in maintaining the unique sense of place in these communities while balancing growth with conservation efforts.
Both sessions will provide valuable insights and tools for attendees to effectively manage the region’s growth while preserving its unique character. We look forward to hearing from Sarah and Bailey as they share their expertise at this event!
